Recently, I read a fascinating article by Arthur C. Brooks in The Atlantic (linked here, but if you can’t access the full text, you can follow the link shared here) about gut feelings. The author explains that we should pay attention to three qualities when it comes to gut feelings: excitement (a good sign when we’re considering a big move), fear (which can be a good sign when it indicates a healthy dose of danger i.e. a challenge, or a bad sign when it feels like dread), and deadness (a bad sign that tells us that our future simply doesn’t lie in this direction). Research shows that when it comes to making complex decisions, we tend to be happier with the decisions we make based on feelings than on analysis. Isn’t that helpful to learn?
