There are lots of books on dating out there that come well-recommended. These are two that I’ve read, purchased, and continue to refer to and lend to friends. I think that a great dating book will encourage introspection and a growing awareness of your own strengths, weaknesses, needs, and wants. Both of these books fit the bill. They’re also very straightforward and easy to read.
Head to Heart: What To Know Before Dating and Marriage, by Gila Manolson. I read this for the first time (of several) in seminary. It’s so refreshing and also empowering; Gila Manolson identifies the elements of a healthy, strong marriage and how to prepare for one during singlehood. She covers a lot of ground in her simple, forthright style (see her other books, which are great).
I Only Want to Get Married Once: The 10 Essential Questions for Getting It Right the First Time, by Chana Levitan. This book is structured as a series of ten thought-provoking questions to ask yourself as you date someone, towards the ultimate goal of determining if this person is the right one for you. Each chapter includes exercises to help you introspect and gain more self-awareness and clarity. I lent it to a friend who was dating from my house one Thanksgiving weekend and it helped her realize that yes, she was dating her husband. 🙂
Happy reading! I hope these are helpful to you!
