Below is a non-authoritative, non-comprehensive brain dump that I did in my journal in response to a prompt. What would you add?
- Listen without interrupting or planning what you are going to say as soon as the other person stops talking. A struggle for me!
- Remember you’re also annoying.
- Be kind and patient for their mother’s sake if not for theirs. How would you hope others treat your child?
- Most strong reactions are not about you, but about something else in their past or present.
- State your needs.
- Verbalize compliments and what you appreciate about the other, more often than you think necessary.
- Don’t be surprised when you’re surprised. (People change).
- Ask yourself from time to time, “Am I a pleasant person to be married to?”
I want to read yours!!
Great stuff to keep in mind.
As usual
