Seeing Friends

According to Myers-Briggs, I am a sociable introvert (INFJ), which sounds about right. Though I like people, I tend to resist getting together with people, especially in the winter months when leaving the house means wrapping up and going out in the cold. But when I do, I’m always so glad I did. This week I went to a shiur that a friend hosted, and I have to honestly say I dragged my feet but I wanted to show up for her, and in the end, it was such a delight to be with other people and I ended up hanging out for 2 1/2 hours.

Social connection, even casual encounters that will not necessarily lead to deeper friendship, is like food for the spirit. We need it so badly, yet we get less and less of it as our lives get busier. Each time the opportunity comes up, I need to remind myself that though it takes effort, it will be worth it and I’ll be glad I got together with other people.
