Post-Seminary Life List

Hello, all.

For fun, I compiled a list of advice for post-seminary life for anyone who may find this interesting or helpful. (I consider the post-sem stage to be loosely the first three-four years after high school or seminary. Adjust definition as you see fit). Feel free to add your own!

  • Find mentors and mentor material. In real life, on the bookshelf, or online. This will evolve.
  • Keep your career options open. At this stage, it’s okay — good, even — to not know what you want to be when you grow up. If you do know, be open to this evolving, too.
  • Consider your personal values.
  • Get a journal.
  • Remember that for everything there is a season.
  • Give your money a plan.
  • Save an emergency fund.
  • Open a retirement account.
  • Go out to eat alone. Get comfortable in your own company.
  • It looks nice on you if it fits right and you feel good in it.
  • Move your body. Spend time in nature. Relax.
  • Leave time to just be in your schedule.
  • Useful items in your closet: all-seasons purse/handbag/whatever you call it, sweater that dresses up or down, raincoat.
  • Accept/solicit Shabbos meal invitations.
  • Get help writing a work resume and cover letter. If you are in or have gone to college, there should be a career services department that can help you with this free of charge.
  • Do something special on your birthday.
  • Make older friends and younger friends.
  • Learn how to make a nice meal.
  • Learn how to make Shabbos.
  • Go for your well visits at the doctor.
  • Write a bucket list.
  • Get glasses you like.
  • Buy makeup you’ll wear.
  • Start wearing daily moisturizer with SPF.

Please do add yours!
