Perspectives

Here is a journaling technique from Journal to the Self, by Kathleen Adams, called “Perspectives.” This is a great technique to try if you want to break out of the feeling of “stuckness” and see different aspects of your life with fresh eyes.

Some ideas of how to write from a new perspective:

When making a decision, write as if it’s a few days since you’ve made either decision and see what comes up for you.

When you feel yourself judging or having difficulty feeling compassion for someone else, write what life looks like from that person’s perspective. Really infuse their personal history into their present behavior.

When you have a hard time feeling like the present will change, write a journal entry dated in a month from today or a year from today. Write what your life will be like then, what new things you’ll be doing. “This can be a very important factor in aligning your will with your unconscious desire, thus helping to ‘create your own reality,'” says Adams. It can be scary and uncomfortable — I actually tried this technique before a first date recently — but it does open up strong feelings of belief and possibility.

I hope you enjoy trying this out!
