I got this idea from Gretchen Rubin, and a similar idea, position statements, from Mary Pipher. Then a friend mentioned something similar this week and I thought about how I might apply this concept to my own life. It’s a simple idea: establish a policy for how you typically deal with a given scenario, and outsource your future decisions to this policy. It’s a way of limiting decision fatigue and overthinking. Some examples of personal policies might be: I shop in up to two clothing stores before Yom Tov. I only discuss my shidduchim 1:1 in a private setting. I stay home on Thursday nights. (The last is actually my policy but I should adopt the others).
Naturally you can break your own rules when you choose, but having them in place to begin with helps streamline decision-making and planning. What do you think of this idea?
