This article by Ingrid Fetell Lee is honestly the best thing I’ve read about scarcity mindset.
When we view our lives through a lens of scarcity, everything becomes a commodity. Loss is terrifying. Success feels like it must be hard-fought, hustled for, taken at whatever cost. And there is always a cost, because in a scarce system, nothing is free.
When we view our lives through the lens of abundance, we live in a state of flow. Success is not taken from others, but created with others…We celebrate the triumphs of others, because more joy in the world doesn’t mean less for us. It means an increase of abundance that will eventually come to us too. And we are less fearful of loss, because we trust that there is enough joy to find us again.
She wrote a follow-up article, too, on cultivating abundance mindset.
Have a beautiful Shabbos!
I’m reading the follow-up article. WOW, just WOW
Great piece. I find it helps me have an abundance mindset when I save up ma’aser and then spend hundreds of it at a time on buying gifts for my organization’s recipients. It’s like, woah, look how much I have, I can just buy whatever for whoever, and this is not even ‘my’ money! And if this is how much ma’aser I have, that means I have a good income BH! That brings me joy. 🙂
That’s amazing!! And such a good reminder to be careful about maaser and giving, which really creates that feeling of abundance!
