October Adventures

This month I tried to be conscious about leaving my house and going places I enjoy. I sometimes get “stuck” at home, especially on Sundays, so after Succos, I put an activity on the calendar for each week.

On Isru Chag, which was Columbus Day, I went to the Met. There is a Manet/Degas exhibit currently running that is super-popular, and I enjoyed the 1930’s art exhibit very much. Still so much to see at the Met! It’s endless!

On Sunday, 10/15, I went to the Small/Cool Apartment Therapy tour in Industry City, Brooklyn. This was fun! My favorite rooms were this and this (I just realized that one is very feminine and the other, very masculine. A couple!).

On Sunday, 10/22, a friend and I were considering our Hudson Valley trip but it was cold, so we went to the mall and got Chinese food. Honestly this was so much fun and we want to do a day like this again. It reminded me of Gretchen Rubin’s tip to “act like a teenager.”

This past Sunday, 10/29, I climbed to the crown of the Statue of Liberty! Tickets for this sell out months in advance so I bought mine in early August. It was a gray, blustery day but the ferry was positively jammed with tourists. Such a popular destination! I took the ferry from Battery Park to the Statue on Liberty Island. The staircase from the pedestal to the crown was like climbing a corkscrew — suuuper long and squeezy! I was surprised to see that the crown is actually quite small inside, like a stairwell landing. I’m so glad I did this, and I think I only need to do it once (lol). After that, I took the ferry from Liberty Island to Ellis Island. I was a bit tired out so didn’t do much of the museum at Ellis Island (I’ve also been there before with school), but it is such a special place to visit. Then I took the ferry back to Battery Park and went home.

I’m going to try and push myself to do things in November, too, before I go into hibernation!
