Twenty for 2023

A few years ago I made a list of twenty goals for 2020. We all know how that year went — but it’s still fun to make these lists and I cannot resist. So without further ado:

  1. Sign up for TransitChek. It’s a benefit my job offers that I have yet to take advantage of (tax-deductible commute) because I have a mental block against signing up. No longer!
  2. Go out to eat with friends at a nice restaurant. I have a couple options in mind and I want to make this happen. It’s been way too long.
  3. Start taking probiotics, which I was supposed to have started years ago.
  4. Clean my room. I have a lot of stuff but not a lot of time, so…
  5. Put away my phone for a two-hour block every day. I’m trying to rebuild my attention span, read more, and generally let my brain cool.
  6. Call a friend once a week.
  7. Buy a pair of black shoes. I really need a pair of black shoes.
  8. Buy a leather bag that fits a book. I usually go out with just my phone (and phone case which holds everything) but I really need a proper bag so I can take myself out to a café to read, for example.
  9. Figure out what to do with my List of Delights. This is an ever-growing note in my phone where I write down things that spark joy or delight in me. Some of them are enumerated here. I am trying to figure out if there is a way to use this list for anything other than to continue posting excerpts.
  10. Visit both of my grandmothers, shetichyu.
  11. Make cacio e pepe. This is a pasta dish that looks like it tastes fancy but I have never tasted it and I’d like to try it.
  12. Have a pancakes and mimosas breakfast. This was one of the alternate wedding menus I saw when I was having fun reading about unique wedding formats, and I want to try it.
  13. Get approved for a mortgage. I really want my own apartment but rents are so high, so I’d like to see if ownership is relevant.
  14. Sketch out a novel. This is probably the biggest reach here because I am just. so. busy. but I want to write a children’s fantasy with frum kids. I have some ideas. I love having ideas.
  15. Learn how to ride a bike. A fear worth conquering.
  16. Freeze more eggs.
  17. Do a Hudson Valley day trip. Some places I’d like to see are Storm King and Lyndhurst, among others.
  18. Go to the beach at least once this summer. I don’t think I’ve been to the beach since once in the summer of 2021. That is shameful.
  19. Take a painting class. There was a specific reason I was inspired to put this on my list but I forgot what it was. Lol.
  20. Leaving this one open for now to allow the rest of the list to stretch and breath.

Wow, this is ambitious! But notice, I did not include any professional goals. I am trying to get back some balance in my life. Let us see how this calendar year unfolds.

Now, what might be on your list?
