Julia Cameron, author of The Artist’s Way, assigns a weekly “Artist Date” to her creativity students. An Artist Date is a solo trip to a place that interests you, sparks your creativity, or encourages play. This post has some great ideas that can work for one person. Here are some additional ideas:
- wine store – I love reading wine labels!
- farmer’s market
- florist
- zoo
- aquarium
- train station – love Grand Central
- train ride
- picture book section of library/book store
- travel book section of library/book store
- art museum
- science museum
- history museum
- boat ride, like this one (next year)
- art supply store
- fabric store
- garden store
- farm
- pick-your-own fruit orchard
- beach
- lake
- historic sites (here is the registry of sites in New York and New Jersey)
- walk around a new neighborhood
- grocery shopping in another town
Some places I’m looking forward to visiting are the Met Opera backstage tour, Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, and Harry Potter New York. Some other places are mentioned in this, this, and this post.
Do you enjoy going anywhere yourself?
Awesome list!
I’d love go to any of these places. Never realized that’s an artistic person thing to do. Cool.
Call me if you need a ‘date’ to go with. I most definitely will not suck the fun out of or ruin any of these places for you. 🙂
Haha! Yes, we definitely should do stuff!
