It’s December! Winter is headed our way. Can you believe it? Wasn’t it just summer…and fall? Since winter is not my favorite season, I thought it would be nice to make a list of things to look forward to. Here are some ideas:
- Take a course, for work if you find that enjoyable, or purely for your own enrichment. Learn some new skills or pursue a hobby, join a class or earn a certification.
- Start a journal. Or refresh with some new inspiration if you already keep one.
- Take yourself out to eat. If you think you’ll be uncomfortable or self-conscious, go somewhere where you don’t know lots of people and bring a book along, but make it a really nice meal.
- Buy one thing that makes your life easier. Storage containers for work lunches, an umbrella to keep in the car, touchscreen gloves…
- Write a card to someone and mail it to brighten their day.
- Throw stuff out. The clothing you don’t even like anymore but feel guilty giving away, class notes you’ll never look at again… (This book, while somewhat zany, is also inspiring).
- Buy yourself a book you’ve always wanted to own, even if you’re not going to read it. This could be a coffee table book or a collection of essays or a picture book — anything you just like the idea of having on your shelf.
- Bake something really decadent that warms you, like chocolate chunk cookies or cheese babka.
- Print your photos and put them into a real album.
- Go for a run outside. Running in the cold is exhilarating and so good for you!
Happy winter!
